As the end of August inches up on us, we’re reminded that summer is winding down, the kids are heading back to school, and those days of hanging out outside with family, friends and the all-important Texas barbecue grill, are becoming few and far between. Labor Day represents the end of summer in many ways. This federal holiday is always observed on the first Monday of September. This year, we’ll celebrate Labor Day on Monday, September 7. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 after President Grover Cleveland signed the bill that enacted the holiday into law.

Labor Day is all about celebrating the end of summer with backyard barbecues, family gatherings, or celebrating with friends and neighbors. Any Texas Labor Day celebration will be a big one because everything is bigger in Texas. That’s just how we do things. You’re not going to skimp on the food, and you certainly wouldn’t want to forget about the flowers! You need those flowers to crank up the WOW factor for your celebration!

Fort Worth may be a long way from the ocean, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add a Taste of the Ocean to your Labor Day festivities. We think this is one of our most unique arrangements we’ve created. We chose a clear glass cube vase for this design. The cube is filled with seashells. Then we add blue and green hydrangeas, sunflowers, orange spray roses. We place echeveria succulents above the flowers and add some decorative greenery and ornamental grass. We think this arrangement really captures the essence of the sorts of things that residents in our area might actually grow in their backyards, gardens, or outdoor living and relaxing spaces.
