Each year, people all around the world celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day by thoughtfully seeking ways to show simple kindness to everyone they meet. Studies have shown that the positive impact of making someone else’s day a little brighter always comes back to you – and that alone is a reason to participate! While we can show kindness to anyone we meet, you don’t have to go far to find ways to make someone’s day. Start with your own neighborhood! Look around and see what practical needs present themselves, both large and small. Perhaps you can offer to wash a neighbor’s car, or mow a lawn for an elderly neighbor. Pick up trash while you are on your nightly walk, and offer to take someone’s dog with you to give them some exercise. With a little planning, you can even take it a step further. Cook a meal for a shut-in friend or relative, and stay to share it with them. Send a flower arrangement to someone who lives alone to let them know you are thinking of them. Bake cookies “just because” and give them out to the mailman on his route. We love the idea of including children in your plans – kids love being part of a surprise, and what a great life lesson!
