It’s no secret that folks in Texas never shy away from letting others know that EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas. The Gordon Boswell team couldn’t agree more, and we’re honoring that tradition through our Halloween floral arrangements and sweet and savory treats.
We’re excited about helping our Fort Worth customers share Halloween greetings with their friends, neighbors, family members and coworkers. We’re equally eager to help you spread some Halloween cheer to people who live far away.
How Did Halloween Begin?
We naturally assume that Halloween is one of those American traditions that’s as patriotic as apple pie. Have you ever stopped to think about how Halloween came about in the first place? We believe that this fascinating story is worth sharing.
Halloween is an observance that evolved from several Ancient Pagan and Roman celebrations. It’s widely believed the holiday we refer to as Halloween actually began with a Celtic Pagan harvest and New Year celebration called Samhain. It combines elements of an Ancient Roman tradition that celebrated the Roman Goddess Pomona, who oversaw fruit and trees.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity spread throughout Europe and eventually came to England. In England, church leaders took over many Pagan traditions and celebrations because they thought it was easier to appropriate them than ban them. They blended them with Christian holidays, feast days and observances as they saw fit.

Samhain fit perfectly into the Church Calendar because November 1 of every year is the celebration of the Feast of All Saints. The next day, November 2 is observed as All Souls’ Day. It made perfect sense to transform Samhain into All Hallows’ Eve. That term eventually turned into a simpler Halloween.
