Originating in Cleveland in 1922, Sweetest Day was created by Herbert Birch Kingston, a candy company employee who wanted to bless orphans and shut-ins by distributing candy and treats to them. Even in the midst of the Great Depression, Kingston was able to bring happiness to people whom society had forgotten. Today, Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October with gifts of flowers and candy for loved ones, sweethearts and close friends as well as those in hospitals or shelters. Gordon Boswell Flowers has everything you need to gift those around you with the sweetest treats for Sweetest Day.
As the end of another school year approaches, soon-to-be graduates are planning for the next chapter of their lives. Whether you’re about to celebrate a middle school, high school, or college graduation, each one represents a milestone in the lives of graduating students. At Gordon Boswell, we’re eager to help our Fort Worth area customers turn their celebrations into a grand old Texas-sized event, as they should be.
On March 8, cities, countries, states, counties, and women’s groups will observe International Women’s Day. It is an international campaign that started in the early 1900s when Suffragettes began their fight to gain the right to vote. The first observance took place in 1911, and now, 107 years later, the theme of this year’s celebration is #PressforProgress. At Gordon Boswell, we believe that flowers are the ideal way to express sentiments. In this case, we encourage you to show your support and appreciation for the women in your lives, and for everything they do – whether it be at work, home, in friendship, a romantic relationship, or a business partnership.
The month of February is packed with romance. We celebrate Valentine’s Day and Creative Romance in the same month. As usual, we count on the creativity of the Gordon Boswell floral design experts to come up with a massive selection of creative and romantic flower arrangements that combine the best seasonal flowers that are available to us.
How much do you love your girlfriends? Well enough to have an entire day devoted to celebrating them? We at Gordon Boswell agree, and guess what? There’s a day for that.
The idea for Galentine’s Day was first proposed in a 2010 episode of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, when main character Leslie Knope took all of her ladies out to a long lunch and gave them gifts the day before Valentine’s Day. She called it “Galentine’s,” and the rest is history. Each year, more and more women are taking the chance to celebrate their friendships on February 13th.
We here at Gordon Boswell welcome 2018, which will be filled with flowers for us, and we’re hoping for you, too. In fact, we have two programs that will help you make sure that your year is abundant with beautiful blooms, and January is the perfect time to get on board with one of them.
If you have something special in mind for your ailing friend or loved one, look no further than flowers. A bright, bountiful bouquet is just the thing when someone is feeling more than the winter blues and needs a good dose of sunshine and cheer. Flowers, studies show, are major mood enhancers, and they also promote a positive outlook. Patients who have flowers or potted plants in their hospital rooms use less pain medication and have lower blood pressure than their flower-less counterparts.
We here at Gordon Boswell have a rich collection of get well flowers designed to perk up anyone suffering during cold and flu season.
While it’s very hard to narrow it down to some of Gordon Boswell’s favorite things during this time of year, we’ve done it. See our very best seasonal blooms, arrangements and more in our Holiday Gift Guide, a real one-stop shop in that you can find something for anyone in its pages – we promise.
One of our most beloved lines, Coton Colors, makes a spectacular gift for the holidays. Once filled to the brim with bright winter blooms and arranged with a touch of whimsy, these distinctive floral containers become the gift that keeps on giving.
