Oh, dahlias. Is there a more delightful (and more on trend) flower? We at Gordon Boswell know the field is crowded with candidates, but we humbly submit our dazzlers for your consideration. And by “consideration,” we mean your floral decor for Fall. Fort Worth is teeming with pumpkin patches, festivals and friendly farms celebrating the season, and we know you’re prepping your home for it, too. So do yourself a favor and add the richly complex dahlia to your decorating scheme.
Put down the Styrofoam gravestones and the bags of spiderweb: it’s time to take a new approach to Halloween decorating. Instead of gloom-and-dooming up your house, imagine a Halloween interior that feels festive, modern and stylish and yet still celebrates the most macabre of holidays. Decorate with boo-tiful Halloween flowers, which we at Gordon Boswell are offering in a variety of elegant arrangements.
Do you celebrate Sweetest Day? The holiday, which began 100 years ago in Cleveland, has primarily been observed in the Midwest over the years, although recently it is gaining traction across the United States. The first Sweetest Day involved several executives of local candy companies banding together to give chocolates and other candies to orphans and shut-ins; throughout the years, it has become a wonderful opportunity to share love and support with anyone who may need encouragement. Gordon Boswell Flowers & Gifts is your premiere source of floral designs and bouquets in Baton Rouge – and they are guaranteed to lift spirits!
Did You Know? Although Sweetest Day was not established as a romantic holiday, it is estimated that 75% of the gifts exchanged are between couples. Continue reading

Across the country, homecoming celebrations can get pretty wild – from pep rallies to bonfires, football rivalries, and parades. But Texas is home to perhaps the most elaborate and over-the-top homecoming tradition, that of Texas mums. While the rest of the country is choosing elegant corsages and suave boutonnieres, Fort Worth students will be designing – or paying for someone to create – the most impressive mum they can muster. And though a way of life here, the tradition is rarely seen anyplace else (although Oklahoma is beginning to catch on).
For those of you new to the state, here is a quick synopsis of this Texas-sized tradition:
* The first homecoming mums were real and therefore, normal sized, often decorated with ribbons.
Because they are fall flowers, they were an obvious choice for the autumn formal dance.
* No one is really sure why the mums began to get so elaborate and huge, except perhaps the fact that Texas
takes every opportunity to do things bigger!
* Mums are no longer real, as they have grown to impressive size and girth. Silk versions are the most popular.
* Designers and professional mum makers add ribbons, baubles, stuffed animals, and even LED lights.
* Although new freshmen are eager to get their first mum, it is frowned upon to get too elaborate early on, with the
tradition dictating that the mum “grow” every year. Freshmen and sophomores will normally decorate with school
colors, juniors will add silver ribbons and lettering, and gold decorations are reserved for seniors.
* A young lady’s date also gets a version of the mum, called a garter and worn around his upper arm. Like a
boutonniere, the garter is a smaller version of the corsage or mum, similar in design.
We love that Texas has a tradition all their own for homecoming!

Grandparents Day is an annual opportunity for families to celebrate the very special relationships involved between grandparents and their grandkids. Established by Congress in 1978, the day was set aside in the hopes that extended families would gather together, share stories and history, and learn about each other. Only a few decades prior, multi-generational families lived together, but the arrangement had become far less common. Grandparents Day sought to reconnect relatives of all ages to share their common legacy.
This day also gives us a wonderful opportunity to tell these very special people how much we love them. Gordon Boswell Flowers has the Grandparents Day flowers you’ll need to convey your love and gratitude.
There is simply no love like a grandparents love. Return the love on September 10, with floral designs which are certain to touch their hearts. Whether your grandmother would prefer an elegant bouquet of snapdragons and roses (above) or a more casual wildflower bouquet featuring sunflowers, lilies and daisies (below) we have a bouquet for every personality and style.
Did You Know? Although we often think of a little grey haired couple when we hear grandparent, the average age of the first-time grandparent is 48 – making most of them more than capable of chasing around the grandkids! And they love doing so, as over 75% of grandparents report that being with their grandchildren is the most fulfilling thing in their life.
Whether you call them Nana and Pop-Pop, Mimi and Papa, or good old Grandma and Grandpa – if they live in the Fort Worth area, give them a call and plan a special outing for September 10. They will absolutely love spending time with you.
And don’t forget the Grandparents Day flowers – because a bouquet from Gordon Boswell Flowers makes every occasion more beautiful.
It’s time to celebrate September birthdays! For all those special people you’ll be looking to honor this month, the team at Gordon Boswell Florist would like to recommend floral designs inspired by sapphires, September’s birthstone. The brilliant blue only occurs in a few flowers naturally, making a sapphire-blue arrangement as uniquely beautiful as its inspiration stone. No matter what inspires you, we know that you’ll love the birthday bouquets from our talented designers. Continue reading
